Self Portrait Photo Joiners: Inspired by David Hockney's photo joiners, artists created self portrait collages. They deconstructed images of themselves as they practiced layering, overlapping and compositional ideas through collage. Artists then added color by applying watercolor to their work.

Still Life With Value: Artists discussed still lifes and used pencil shading techniques to apply value and create the illusion of form on their objects. They created a background by mixing colors with white to create tints. Then, they collaged and overlapped their objects onto the background.


Zoomed Flowers

Zoomed Oil Pastel Flowers: After learning about the parts of a flower and discussing the work of Georgia O'Keeffe, artists practiced drawing large flowers on their paper. Then, they added color using oil pastels and practiced blending to show value. 


Surrealist Collages

Surrealist Collages: Artists read poems by André Breton and discussed artwork by artists such as Hanna Höch, among others. Then they created their own collages using elements of Surrealism such as dream-like, strange and humorous imagery juxtaposition, and playing with scale and proportion.


Animal Sculptures

Animal Sculptures 〰️

Animal Sculptures: Artists manipulated materials such as paper, tape and wire to create sculptures of animals. Then they used paper maché techniques add colorful crepé paper to the animals and base. Finally, artists painted details and attached their animals to a base.
